Ryedale Vineyards tours

@Ryedale Vineyard, Westow

From May 1st

Ryedale Vineyards offer an informal, humorous and informative guided tours and tasting which starts with visitors shown the vines and vineyard, a visit to their winery and ends with sampling their wines and ciders with local cheeses either in our outdoor marquee or tasting Stables. Highly recommend 🙂

Embracing Wool Exhibition

@Walled Garden, Scampston Hall

Wednesday 31st May - Sunday 4th June

Embracing Wool is a collaboration of professional textile artists based in and around Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Their artists primarily work with and promote the use of wool as a medium for their work. 

Showcasing the very best examples of their member’s work across a broad range of wool disciplines, members share their enthusiasm for their craft during this five day exhibition.

Meet the artists and demonstrations will be taking place during this event.

A Yorkshire Vet – Julian Norton in Conversation with Sally Coulthard

@Milton Rooms, Malton

Thursday 1st June (7.30 pm)

Everyone’s favourite vet, Julian Norton joins his friend, local author and Country Living columnist Sally Coulthard for a chat covering Julian’s work, his writing, celebrity, his TV work and why his latest books are for children.

Sally and Julian will go on to talk about their shared interests in nature, farming and rural life.  This will be followed by the opportunity for audience questions and then a book signing.

The art of the shield: Mile chariot burial

@Assembly rooms above Malton Museum

Thursday 1st June (7.30 pm)

Following on from the highly successful talk by the excavation and research team from MAP Archaeological Projects Ltd, Professor Melanie Giles will explore how this shield was made, decorated and used. She will unfold some of the mysteries of its decoration, explaining links between this object and other icons of Celtic Art, including shields from other graves in the Arras cemeteries.

Finally, she will consider who it was buried with and what this might tell us about the identity of the Mile charioteer. 


Cooking The Books: Eat Yourself Beautiful

Healthy eating and well-being evening. Join Gilly and local beautician Sarah Greenhough for a lovely evening of self care. Learn how seasonal ingredients can be used to benefit the body both inside and out in this relaxed and informative evening. A warm, friendly atmosphere awaits.

Comedy: – The Lost Voice Guy

@Milton Rooms, Malton

Friday 2nd June (7.30 pm)

Join the friendly team at Milton Rooms for a fantastic evening of Comedy and Music to help raise funds for local charity Acorn Community Care.

Star of the evening will be Britain’s Got Talent and BBC New Comedy winner ‘Lost Voice Guy’ (real name Lee Ridley), supported by comedian Liam Pickford with music from Leeds based Mojo Catfish.

Acorn Community Care is based on an 8 acre farm in Norton providing care and support for people living with learning and physical disabilities through a wide range of activities on offer based at the farm.

They also enable people living with such challenges to enjoy  independent lives within our community. achieving this through a bespoke support package within their own homes delivered by a team of well trained and dedicated support workers.

Saturday 10th June

North Yorkshire boasts some of the finest chefs in the county. Every month the wonderful humans at  The Cooks Place invite a chef to cook you an intimate dinner. This is private dining at its best. The chefs they invite use local produce to create some of their most mouth-watering signature dishes – which you’ll watch them create from the comfort of the Chefs Table – whilst sipping a glass of something delicious (of course).

Malton Monthly Food Market is known for it’s specialist stalls, street food, music & bags of foodie fun!

Popular with all those who care about where their food is sourced, the market is set against the magnificent backdrop of St Michael’s Church.  

I go to buy blankets from a fabulous company that repurposes leftover tweed from the mills, it’s not all food 🙂

Malton’s Medieval Story

@St Mary's Priory Church, Old Malton

Saturday 10th June (10.30 am)

The layout of Malton town centre has changed very little since medieval times, but its early origins are now well concealed behind later Georgian and Victorian buildings. St Mary’s Priory Church in Old Malton is the largest remaining visible evidence of a flourishing medieval past. Join us there for an illustrated talk in which we reveal the hidden history of the origins of both Old and New Malton. This will be followed by a guided look at key features inside the church and in the former priory grounds by the river. 

Midsummer Monuments Tour

@Castle Howard

Friday 16th June

Take a journey across the Estate and discover some of our famous monuments and follies. End your tour with a unique chance to enjoy drinks and canapes in the Temple as you watch the sun set.

Join Castle Howards curatorial team for this walking tour to the Howard family’s private Mausoleum, with exclusive access to the spectacular Chapel and Vaults below. Return to the Temple of the Four Winds for a glass of Nyetimber English Sparkling Wine and canapés and a chance to enjoy amazing views of the Estate from the Temple in the midsummer twilight.

Classic Car Show

Sunday 18th June

The Father’s Day Classic Car Show is a spectacular day of motoring heritage, including trade and autojumble stalls selling a range of hard-to-find parts, accessories, vintage items, crafts and memorabilia plus modern car dealership stands, quality food, drink, ice cream and bars.

The event will also feature a full vehicle judging and awards ceremony overseen by a leading commentator and vehicle enthusiast. Awards will be presented for a range of vehicle age groups and will culminate in the Club of the Show, Pride of Ownership and Car of the Show awards.

Modified Car Show

@Walled Garden, Scampston Hall

Sunday 18th June

The Yorkshire Modified Car Show, one of the best car show events in Yorkshire and the North of England, was established over 14 years ago and is held in Scampston’s stunning parkland. The highlight of the show features the ‘Yorkshire Top 20’ show-car competition, displaying the top 20 cars entered from around the UK.

Performing in the main arena will be the Jez Avery Stunt Show; an amazing show on four wheels, two wheels, one wheel and no wheels plus the ROLLOVER QUAD. The show features wheelies, stoppies, two-wheel driving, drifting, doughnuts and precision driving.

The Driver Challenge Obstacle Course will be taking place in the Main Arena, where exhibitors compete against the clock testing their speed and precision driving – great to watch, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats!

Summer Solstice Fireside Supper and Sound Bath

Wednesday 21st June

Uplifting yoga, meditation and sound bath in our Walled Garden, followed by an outdoor three-course seasonal supper, in partnership with Jolly Allotment.

Celebrate the summer solstice in an evening designed to celebrate the sun, yourself and nature.

Natalie and James Bradshaw from Yoga in Nature and Root to Rise lead a reviving and regenerating sound bath and meditation.

You’ll gather around for a fire ceremony where you can let go of the things that no longer serve you and welcome in the new season.

The evening ends with a three course seasonal supper from the fire, full of local seasonal ingredients nourishing for the gut, mind body and soul.=, cooked by Sustainable Chef and regenerative health expert Polly Baldwin, curator of Jolly Allotment and her team.

Foraging Supper with Taste the Wild

Thursday 22nd June

Forage in Castle Howard’s Grounds, and enjoy the fruits of your labour in an outdoor, three-course wild supper served in our beautiful Walled Garden in partnership with Jolly Allotment.

Learn about wild foods and their benefits from Taste the Wild founder Chris Bax, in a lovely evening designed to connect you with nature, food and community. Enjoy a Bax Botanics cocktail as you settle in for your three course supper, with freshly foraged ingredients.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an amazing outdoor supper, cooked over fire in Castle Howard’s Walled Garden, that will leave you feeling joyful.

Wild Supper Celebrating Seasonal Eating plus Guest Speakers

Friday 23rd June

Join likeminded people for this collaborative regenerative supper, an evening of relaxation, learning, and delicious food, including a four-course supper in Castle Howard’s Walled Garden, with natural wines. Share the table with the farmers and growers that produced the ingredients.

This is an incredibly special and unique evening, hosted in the beautiful Walled Garden. Taste natural wines and learn why they are good for us and the planet; hear from the farmers who have produced the evening’s menu the stories behind the food; and learn about the love and care that goes into the regeneration of their soil to bring you healthier and tastier produce to your plate. A day of talks and workshops about practical ways to look after your gut and emotional health in partnership with Jolly Allotment.

Spend the morning around the campfire with Polly Baldwin, Jolly Allotments resident gut health expert, and the afternoon with special guest Sara Jones a breath work and tapping (emotional freedom) specialist.

Includes a delicious fire-cooked lunch.

Ryedale Blues Club: John Doe Trio

@Milton Rooms, Malton

Thursday 29th June (8 pm)

Milton Rooms are welcoming back the fantastic John Doe Trio.

If you missed them last time they were here, be sure to catch them this time as they have established themselves as one of the most exciting bands on the British blues circuit. Their debut album ‘Stranger’ received critical acclaim both internationally and in the UK, and was described as, “A Masterpiece” and “Most Excellent” by British blues broadcasters.

They continue to wow audiences around Britain’s blues clubs and festivals with their pure unbridled musicianship: often described as virtuosic. A must-see band for all blues fans, young and old.

Comedy Club: Hilarity Bîtes

@Milton Rooms, Malton

Thursday 29th June (8 pm)

Jack Gleadow
Multi-award winning stand-up comedian from Hull, Jack Gleadow is one of the most unique performers on the UK comedy circuit today. He takes his inspiration from the golden era of variety; Jack is the One-Man Variety Show with the use of sounds, stories, jokes and a scooter!

Jack is in huge demand on the live comedy scene. As well as performing across the top UK comedy club such, Jack performed at the Edinburgh Fringe where he performed every day as part of the Pleasance Comedy Reserve. He has also been on the road as tour support for Lloyd Griffith, and featured at Latitude festival’s main comedy arena – to a mere 3,500 people!

Danny Posthill
Britain’s Got Talent finalist Danny Posthill’s career began at the young age of 16, making people laugh with hilarious impressions at his school talent show. Since then, comedy became Danny’s passion.

Skilled with a versatile act that caters for all audiences, Danny offers unbeatable stand up and a range of impressions such as Billy Connolly, Jimmy Carr, and Lee Evans, to guarantee an unforgettable night of laughter.

Danny has performed all around the world, from the Mediterranean to South America, and is gaining recognition on the UK circuit as one of the most promising British comedians.

El Baldiniho
El Baldiniho is a magician and prop comedian performing on TV, in comedy clubs, at festivals and at corporate events across the UK and beyond.

Recently seen on Britain’s Got Talent (where he got 4 yeses) he can also be seen headlining family friendly comedy events at The Comedy Store, Up The Creek, and The Frog and Bucket.

He regularly appears at many of the biggest comedy venues in the UK.

Afternoon Tea with Kitty Scott-Claus

Serving Stately Home realness in our grand Long Gallery, the incredible Kitty Scott-Claus is gracing Castle Howard’s halls this June for a drag event like no other.

Enjoy a delectable afternoon tea, a fantastic performance from Kitty, and a delicious glass of Nyetimber English Sparking Wine or two before sashay-ing away into the night.

Drag Afternoon Tea at Castle Howard starts at 5pm, serving delicious sweet and savoury delights curated by Castle Howard’s Head Chef Nathan Richardson-Kelly. A glass of Nyetimber Classic Cuvee, or a soft drink, is included in your booking, plus tea and coffee. Please note, there will be no bar service available on the day – please pre-order any additional Nyetimber with your booking.

Kitty Scott-Claus is a celebrated drag performer, best known for her appearance on Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, Season 3. Kitty will give two performances during the Afternoon Tea service.

Cooking The Books: Alice's Book : How the Nazis Stole My Grandmother's Cookbook by Karina Urbach

Thursday 15th June (7pm)

The story of a Jewish chef whose bestselling cookbook was expropriated under the Nazi regime. Alice Urbach had her own cooking school in Vienna, but in 1938 she was forced to flee to England, like so many others. Returning to the ruins of Vienna in the late 1940s, she discovers that her bestselling cookbook has been published under someone else’s name. Now, eighty years later, the historian Karina Urbach – Alice’s granddaughter – sets out to uncover the truth behind the stolen cookbook.

Each month Jo Hardy from Kemps selects a book that has a foodie vibe. Jo will discuss the book and open the discussion for review and Gilly Robinson from The Cooks Place will help you to create a dish as mentioned in the text.

Cooking the Books is a great way to bring your love of books and cooking together. A wonderful night out for a group of book lovers or even on your own, to chat, eat, learn new skills, and just a great excuse to read a book.

Yorkshire cricket tea with a Malton twist: a sharing platter of tea time treats served on tables of 6*.

John Fuller from Cricket Yorkshire will chat about all things cricket and tell tales from his 2 books whilst you enjoy a cricket tea. The menu will suit those on a vegetarian diet and we can cater for the following allergies: nut*/gluten/dairy if advised at the time of booking.

Last Of The Summer Wickets: Tales from the Scarborough Cricket Festival

The day the county cricket fixtures are revealed each winter, hoteliers in Scarborough get ready for their phones to melt. The migration of cricket fans each August to the North Yorkshire coast has yet to feature in a nature documentary but county cricket by the seaside has been a Yorkshire institution since 1876. Be transported to one of Yorkshire’s finest sporting amphitheatres.

John Fuller travels to the coastal town to find the characters and stories, watch Yorkshire in action and tap into Scarborough’s enduring appeal.

All Wickets Great and Small: In Search of Yorkshire’s Grassroots Cricket

Nowt stops for cricket in Yorkshire. Passion runs deep, beyond those in whites, to the groundsmen, tea ladies, scorers and umpires who embody the game. All Wickets Great and Small is a romp across the landscape of amateur cricket in Yorkshire during the summer of 2015.John Fuller looks at the key issues affecting the grassroots game: the struggles to attract players, funding shortages, natural disasters and the social dynamics that can threaten a captain’s eleven on a Saturday.

The Cooks Place are excited to bring you a Date Night with a difference! You and your partner will cook your own two course dinner before sitting down to enjoy them together at your own private table. You’ll prepare and make two dishes, with guidance from Gilly, and eat as you go. Whether it’s your first date, or 100th date, you can expect a wonderful evening and a fun, informal and relaxed atmosphere! 

No cooking experience neccessary.

Earth Photo Exhibition at Dalby Forest

Earth Photo, the international competition and exhibition created by Forestry England and the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers), showcases photographs and videos that document the natural world, its breathtaking beauty, and its ever-growing fragility.

The Dalby Forest exhibition will display a selection of the shortlisted entries, allowing visitors to view the stunning images in a beautiful forest setting.

Malton Agricultural Show

A wonderful day out, this is one of my favourite shows. Head over there as it opens and you’ll have the front row view to everything. The preparation of the working horses is always a treat and everyone is really friendly. Ask a pigeon breeder about their birds and you’re in for a treat!
