Stargazing in Dalby

Astro Dog offer exciting, interactive, stargazing sessions in the enchanting setting of Dalby Forest. Dalby Forest is a designated Dark Sky Discovery Site and is set within the heart of the picturesque North York Moors National Park. 

 

Guests can enjoy a guided tour of the night sky, learning about stars, asterisms, constellations, star-hopping and how to navigate the night sky. Use telescopes and binoculars to view the planets, the Moon and stunning deep space objects such as double stars, star clusters, galaxies and nebulae.

Willow Hare Weaving Workshop With Twigs & Sprigs at The Patisserie

Come and enjoy weaving your very own willow hare for your home or garden. These are great fun to weave and one of the most popular workshops at The Patisserie.
 
This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with some weaving experience.

Ryedale Art Social Evening

Tuesday 13th February

New for 2024, Environmental Art and The Library Bar have teamed up to bring you an evening of arts and culture with talks and networking on the second Tuesday of each month.
 
The event is FREE to attend but your place must be reserved as places are limited. 
 
At the inaugural instalment of the Ryedale Art Social evenings on 13th February, come along and find out more about the plans for the Malton Sculpture Trail from top blacksmith and organiser of the Malton Sculpture Trail, Piers Edsall and changes to the Ryedale Open Studios. 
 
Helen Mahoney launching her new series of community workshops, collaborations and exhibitions in Norton. 
 

Cooking the Books: The Land Where Lemons Grow by Helena Attlee

Thursday 15th February

Each month Jo Hardy from Kemps selects a book that has a foodie vibe and while Jo discusses and reviews the book and opens the discussion Gilly Robinson, owner, and head tutor here at The Cooks Place will then create two dishes mentioned in the text. Relax and enjoy as Gilly cooks and demonstrates how to make the dishes, which you eat along with a glass of something.

A delightful book about Italy’s unexpected history, told through its citrus fruits
 
The story of citrus runs through the history of Italy like a golden thread, and by combining travel writing with history, recipes, horticulture and art, Helena Attlee takes the reader on a unique and rich journey through Italy’s cultural, moral, culinary and political past.

Join us for a glorious, relaxing afternoon of palm oil free soap-making! Make six bars of your own signature, cold process soap to take home bearing your own signature fragrance, made from a blend of essential oils. 
 
You will make your palm oil free soap from vegetable oils and waxes using the cold process soap-making method. No melt-and-pour synthetic soap bases here! You will then personalise your soap using dried flowers, fruit, exfoliants and fragrances.

Comedy Evening with Steve Day, Ashley Frieze and host Carl Jones

Friday 23rd February

Steve Day – Steve has been described as ‘warm and witty’ by the Scotsman and has received many other rave reviews whilst performing shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  Chortle gave him five stars in 2007 for Deafy’s Island Discs, a show the Sunday Times called ‘Funny and Moving’.

Ashley Frieze – with his charming, daft and warm brand of music infused stand up comedy, this guitar toting funny man has been entertaining audiences across the UK for nearly 20 years.  His original songs, with well crafted lyrics and catchy tunes, span many genres from Jazz to Coldplay, via 1960’s girl group pop!

Carl Jones – Midlands comic Carl Jones first hit the circuit in 2011, performed and written for the BBC’s comedy output and is a regular at some of the top comedy clubs across the UK.

Ryedale Blues Club – Alex Hamilton Band

Thursday 29th February

Glasgow born Alex Hamilton has been part of the British Blues/Rock scene for over ten years and makes a welcome return to The Milton Rooms. He has been compared to Robben Ford and Matt Scofield and his debut album at the age of 18 won the Scottish New Music Award in 2011 and his subsequent albums have all been nominated for awards including the British Blues Awards, several years running. 

Having toured in dozens all across Britain and extensively in Europe with his trio ‘The Alex Hamilton Band’, he has regularly sold out theatres and music clubs across the globe, gaining a following of musicians and music fans alike. In the last ten years Alex has been fortunate enough to share stages with some of the best musicians in his genre including Carl Verheyen, Anysley Lister, Henrik Freishlader and King King.
