Your April Events 2023 Guide

Fun things to do in Malton & Surrounding Villages

Welcome to this year’s round-up of fabulously fun things to do in the most beautiful part of Yorkshire.

I’ve included links as dates and times may change, plus some of the activities need to be booked so please double-check.

Bookmark this page as I’ll be updating this everytime I find something new 🙂

If you’re interested in events in York, there are direct links to event pages at the end of this page.

A quick love note to events in Burythorpe

If you’re not staying with us yet – here’s how you can get booked in 😉 Yup… you can stay here!

  • Afternoon Teas available daily at Burythorpe House Hotel  12-4pm with tables available in the dining room… or in front of one of the roaring log fires (yes please!) – Vegan & GF available and pre-booking required: Contact reception 01653 658200
  • Massages… If this is your kind of dreamy (we love combining this with the salt water hot-tub at Yew Tree Cottage) for a fully indulgent spa experience then book direct with our favourite mobile beautician Jasmine. https://www.jasminemaysbeauty.co.uk/ She doesn’t accept on the day bookings so book in advance. Note – Jasmine is not affiliated with us, we have listed her here because (while I selfishly want to keep her to myself) I thought you may enjoy her fabulous massages too.

River…Road…Railway

Saturday 8th April (10.30 am)

This tour takes a route along a stretch of riverbank via Navigation Wharf, now a forgotten backwater, telling the story of Malton’s 18th and 19th century transport and trade, and life before the motor car. This area of town was once an extremely important area bustling with life, and the station was once a noisy place with an imposing railway goods handling building, an outsized cattle dock, and extensive coal sidings that served a wide area. Come and learn about how and where it all happened! (Tour length- 1 ½ hour).

Live Comedy: Hilarity Bites Comedy Club

@The Milton Rooms

Thursday 27th April (8pm)

Tom Taylor
Multi-award winning comedian Tom Taylor has received high praise from audiences and critics alike. His unique brand of musical comedy is smart and silly in equal measure and he can boast an impressive stock of quirky, and very funny, musical one-liners.Recently, Tom has performed on Radio 2 and Radio 4 Extra as part of the BBC Radio New Comedy Award and has supported Simon Munnery on tour.

“His brand of nervous, neurotic musical comedy is an absolute delight” – The Skinny

Harriet Dyer
Fresh and unique, it’s a pleasure to spend time in Harriet Dyer’s company as she weaves her surreal and hilarious tales. An imitable raconteur, it’s easy to see how this newer act is making a big noise.

Harriet already has heads turning with her baffling tales of a misspent youth, and bewildering personal tales that are so ridiculous, they must be true. Establishing her own style of material and delivery after such a short time, means Harriet’s stock can only continue to rise.

“a bundle of whimsical hilarity… a breath of fresh air… will have you in stitches” – Broadway Baby

Pete Selwood
A hotly tipped up and upcoming comedian on the circuit, Pete Selwood has quickly risen through the comedy ranks with swagger. After winning the Lawrence Batley New Yorkshire Comedian of the Year (quite a mouthful), he has gone from strength to strength, winning comedy competitions and winning over audiences.

Barnsley born, he is an adept storyteller, focussing on tales of Northern life as a perpetually single man in his 20s. Being born with only one hand also gives him a unique view and experience of the world around him, poking fun at having a fairly minor disability in modern Britain.

In keeping with his material about disability, Selwood is also half of a double-act with Britain’s Got Talent star Jack Carroll, performing sketches and creating videos about the portrayal of disability within our society.
