Cooking The Books - in collaboration with The Cooks Place, Malton

@The Cook's Place, Malton

Thursday 14th September

My Life In France by Julia Child – Arriving in Paris in 1948, ‘a six-foot-two-inch, thirty-six-year-old, rather loud and unserious Californian’, Julia Child barely spoke a word of French and didn’t know the first thing about cooking. She fell in love with French culture – buying food at local markets, sampling the local bistros, and taking classes at the Cordon Bleu – and her life began to change forever. Bursting with Child’s adventurous and humorous spirit, My Life in France captures post-war Paris with wonderful vividness and charm.

Each month Jo Hardy from Kemps selects a book that has a foodie vibe. Jo will discuss the book and open the discussion for review and Gilly Robinson from The Cooks Place will help you to create a dish as mentioned in the text.

Marrakesh Express – A Tribute to Crosby Stills & Nash

@Milton Rooms, Malton

Friday 22nd September

The Marrakesh Express are John Butler, Keith Buck, and Adam Ellis, who pay homage to the wonderful supergroup that was Crosby Stills and Nash.

Crosby Stills and Nash came together in the late 60s, the product of three very different bands. David Crosby was sacked by The Byrds, and brought with him his folk sensibilities, jangly guitars and harmonies. Stephen Stills had come from Buffalo Springfield, in which he had worked with Neil Young. Graham Nash had come from England and The Hollies.

Marrakesh Express tell the story of this coming together through music from all four bands. Music by Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, and The Hollies is interspersed with the hit by CSN. To add more to the story, Neil Young’s contribution is also covered.
